Responsible for preparation of AAR and Wreck billing invoices and submission to the responsible party. Audit car repair billing for compliance to the AAR Interchange Rules, overcharges, undercharges and improper/wrong repairs for handling of unpaid and paid receivable exceptions.  Perform month end close process and accounting reconciliation in accordance with billing calendar. Audit AAR billing for assigned client(s) within specified time limit. Review exceptions from car owners for validity of repairs that were invoiced, release to field personnel for confirmation of repairs performed, review field responses and actions taken on exceptions / dollar amounts and close exceptions which will generate letter and cba if required. 


  • Associate degree (mechanical and/or accounting) from College or university; or minimum of two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related experience is defined as shop, railroad or FMO biller, car repair person or private car line/railroad AAR Billing auditor. Qualification to be verified through an assessment that will demonstrate the knowledge base regarding AAR Interchange Rules and equipment.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting is helpful in the receivable processing.
  • This position requires the employee to be very diligent and meticulous as the auditing of AAR bills is a very detail orientated process. The employee must also be tenacious when reviewing exception letter responses to ensure billing is in full compliance with AAR Interchange Rules to avoid any undesirable precedents within the billing.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to use industry services such as the Railinc EHMS, UMLER, CEPM, DDCT and Early Warning systems to review alerts involving other car owner’s equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the car owner’s equipment, the corresponding repair processes and procedures along with the appropriate AAR Interchange Rules related to the equipment.
  • This position requires knowledge of Web Focus or related computer programming and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to generate reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and clients’ agents.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 
  • Demonstrate good communication skills in responding to client issues and concerns regarding car repair billing.


General office environment with moderate noise level.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to remain stationary within work area and occasionally move about and use hands and finger, handle, feel, reach, stoop, crouch, climb or balance. The employee occasionally lifts and/or transports up to 10 pounds.  Correctable vision capabilities required. The position requires the ability to travel by airline, automobile or other means in order to attend meetings and/or seminars and to participate in on-site QA audits. This position will involve time spent in a shop and/or railroad environment. Employee will need to be familiar with safety rules of and exhibit personal safety awareness at all times.
